The Jet saw is quiet and has little to no noticeable vibration. I taped up the corners inside the cabinet so that chips wouldn't fall through the corners and that seemed to slightly improve the dust collection.
I do wish Jet would have used slightly thicker steel tubing for the fence rails as they do slightly flex when you tighten down the fence.I would certainly recommend this saw to anyone looking for an upgrade but not wanting to buy a full sized cabinet saw. The table saw feels solid and cuts very smooth and accurate.
The saw was easy to assemble and all adjustments were easy to make (square up the miter slot to the blade and square up the fence to table and blade). The fence is very accurate and easy to set.
I upgraded from a Craftsman 10" contractor saw to the Jet Hybrid saw and wow what a difference. Dust collection is not great but sufficient.
The saw has plenty of power and was able to rip through 8/4 birch and walnut easily and also cut through 3/4" oak without a problem.
Purchased the cast iron wings directly from Jet for a couple of hundred $ more. I had to get a small tap to clear out the threads in the cabinet body that accept the hold down bolts for the dust collection door, the bolt insertion/removal worked fine after that.
I used two pieces of 1/8 inch fiberboard glued rough-rough side to allow two very smooth outer surfaces for the zero clearance insert, then routed the edges to get the insert level flush with the table.Pluses - great fence, smooth gliding, very easy to set and keep true; Lots of power, no issue cutting thick stock; quiet; works well on the JET mobile base; fairly true out of the box, easy to true up, good manual.A great step up from my prior 20 year old craftsman contractor saw, for sure.I would recommend this to anyone wanting a high quality 110v saw for serious hobby work. The steel wings were difficult to keep from bowing up, or cupping.
I find myself vacuuming the cabinet out after each project, again, dust removal weakest point with the saw. Making zero clearance inserts is a bit tricky as the blade retracts just slightly below the plane of the table.
I bought the 480K saw with steel wings almost a year ago, couldn't get a firm delivery date on cast iron version at the time. The manual with the 480K covers install of the cast iron wings, too.Minor detractions - dust collection ain't great.
With the cast iron wings, no problem.
it is unusual thickness.8- The miter gauge is too cheap. Hope jet will address these short comings.I will recommend this sawto anyone. I am considering MicroJig splitter6- The power cord could be a bit longer7 - the insert should have been standard like other jet saws.
The motor, fence, cast iron top, rails. I could not have a bigger more professional saw becasue of space limitation so I settled for this after careful reviews. These ehancement will make it a great saw for its price.1 - The Dust collection is poor.2 - The dust and service door does not have hinge. Don't waste money on other saws. too bad because jet will not have solution for current customers. I have gone thru 3 saws. 4 screws must beremoved to get access to inside of the saw3 - Legs Have hole in them which will reduce the dust collection effectiveness.4 - The rubber shoes should be self leveling. By next year they have to have one. I am going to replace it with a kreg miter gauge.Everything else on this saw is first class.
you will not find anything better out there. woodworking is what gets my mind off large complex computer systems. 5 - No riving knife. All the essentials are among the best.
But the legs are a little weak for what I was expecting. Dust always leaks out the bottom 4 corners which have huge openings in them, even with my 1250CFM JDS dust collector pulling hard.
I think the tool customer service is separate from their regular CS because I have never been treated bad before like this. Wish I had bought the cast iron instead of steel, they also seem a little flimsy, but they work fine.
But other wise it is perfect. In the meantime when I inquired about the delivery they were not helpful at all and just a little rude about the whole thing.
I love the saw, coming from a benchtop crafsman how couldn't I. And the dust collection is a little weak.
The fence is nice, saw is pretty quiet and has very solid features.I'm not sure why it took Amazon almost 3 weeks to deliver the saw.
The setup is straight forward and relatively simple although it does take two people because of the weight. This is a quality hybrid saw. Once setup, the saw required just a little adjustment for proper parallelism and accuracy of the blade and the fence.Cuts are smooth and the saw has plenty of power for the home woodworker.
